Alfred Juergens sketchbook, ca. 1897.

The notebook contains thirteen loose leaves, with sketches and numerous names and addresses. One sheet is titled "Sketchbook 2nd trip - 1897 Munich." Various water stains and paper types suggest that the sheets come from different sketchbooks.

Alfred Juergens was born in Chicago in 1866. He studied at the Academy of Design in Chicago, the Royal Academy in Munich, and in Paris (1889-1893). Established in Oak Park, Ill. by the turn of the century, Juergens participated in annual exhibitions at the Art Institute of Chicago from 1899-1929.
